To make up for my extended absence...

I've compiled a list of 50 things about me, a trend that I've noticed popping up on a lot of blogs recently. I've got a lot of other stuff to blog about, but that'll be for another post.

  6. I have a time-sucking addition to TLC.
  7. I've had three major surgeries.
  8. I only ever buy lottery tickets when the amount becomes astronomical.
  9. I have an electric toothbrush, but never turn it on.
  10. When I was a baby, I had casts on both feet to correct my club feet.
  11. I currently have only 5 piercings.
  12. My favourite number is 12.

  17. I am not religious.
  18. I have 3 step-sisters and 1 step-brother.
  19. I hope everyday that I don't inherit my father's work ethic.
  20. The only 'optional' organ that I still have is my spleen.
  21. I am far too high-strung and worry way too much.
  22. When I drive, I have a horrible lead foot...and the speeding tickets to prove it.
  23. I hate insects of any kind, but cannot bring myself to kill them.
  24. I dislike textures of foods more than flavours.
  25. I played baseball and volleyball competitively when I was younger.
  26. I am currently horribly out of shape.

  28. Because of my piercings and tattoo, I am technically not allowed to be buried in a Jewish cemetary.
  29. My first concert was New Kids on the Block.
  30. Although I've never confirmed it, I'm quite sure that I'm at least a little OCD.
  31. I hate flying, but love heights.
  32. I've never read a comic book.
  33. I was born at 8:50 am.
  34. I like Pepsi better than Coke.

  37. I have a weakness for MAC cosmetics.
  38. I am constantly competitive, but compete at nothing.
  39. I have just started to figure out html and css.
  40. Although I lived in Winnipeg for 20 years, I have moved more than 20 times.
  41. I'm told I snore, but I've never heard it.

  43. IKEA is one of my favourite stores.
  44. I hope to live somewhere with palm trees.
  45. I tend to have a very strange patriotic steak.
  46. I enjoy the act of writing pen on paper, much more than typing.
  47. I travelled to the UN in Geneva for free when I was in high school.
  48. I am the proud owner of two brand-new Gmail accounts.
  49. I have really funny-shaped feet and can never find comfortable shoes.
  50. I have only ever won two things: a stuffed animal when I was little and a trip to LA (that Chris technically won, but still counts).

A day of transit firsts...

It could have been in the ridiculous amount of time I spent about various ETS vehicles today, or it could have just been one of those days.

  1. I rode aboard my first bendy bus. You know, the ones that have the accordian-like section in the middle, like the LRT cars? I sat in the bendy section for added effect.
  2. The driver actually asked every single person on one of the buses I was on to see their fare. You know when you get on at West Ed or some other money draining facility, and the driver's in the can or having a smoke? Well with no one there, many people just keep their change to themselves and have a seat, because the driver never checks to see if people have paid their fares. With *this* guy, actually went through every single person on the bus, and kicked two kids off...
  3. When I phoned the bus people (but still didn't get connected to Heather), I actually got someone who was pleasant. And asked how I was. I was so taken aback, she had to ask if I was still on the line.
On a partially related note (only because it took place in an LRT station), I fell down the stairs yesterday. When I woke up this morning, it was kind of difficult to get out of bed. It sucked.

A random smattering of the past few days...

It seems I haven't posted in a while. It's not that nothing's happened, or that I don't have anything to say...I just haven't been in a blogging kind of mood...

I don't normally laugh at the misfortunes of others...

...but this was just too funny. On the LRT this morning, a little boy and his mom got off the train at Bay. While the mom was distracted in setting up the stroller, the little boy 'challenged' the train.

"I gonna beat you choo-choo train!!! I gonna win the race, choo-choo!"
And the race began (although, of course, the train was totally oblivious to the fact that it was in a competition). The problem? The little boy was maybe 20 feet from the wall when he began racing the "choo-choo" at full speed. I think you all know where this is going. As in right into a wall. Too funny.

Bunnybunnybunny!

I had a staring contest with a bunny this morning on the way to work. I was already late at that point, so I figured why not? I'll kick this bunny's ass!

So yeah...the bunny won. But seriously, I had to catch my train.

The British International School is getting a new student

As most of you already know, Chris' parents and younger sister are moving to Moscow. Crazy. On a related note, I've always wanted to visit Russia.

Wow.

From Florida's KATC 3 News:

600 lb. Woman Grows to Couch, Dies

...

"Using planks, they loaded the woman on to the trailer, still attached to the couch. Removing her would be too painful, since her body is grafted to the fabric. After years of staying put, her skin has literally become one with the sofa and it must be surgically removed."

...

It was a bad day today

I guess it's hard to know if or how you affect the people around you, to make some sort of catalogue or list in your mind of those to whom you mean something to. Some people never find out.

Today should have been a really good day.

Hmm. That's disturbing.

So last night while I was loading up the dishwasher after dinner at Chris', one of my fingers had a little run-in with an upturned steak knife, right in between my nail and my knuckle. I didn't bother to do anything about it, although I did notice that it hit me right on the little freckle on that finger.

So today, I notice that I've got a bit of a skin flap, and pull it off...and the freckle came off too! I'm concerned. Are freckles supposed to do be, uh, removable? Was it not a freckle at all?

I need...something new...

As long as I can remember, I've always had some sort of hobby or pursuit that I've enjoyed and also been successful at. For the past couple of years, my 'hobby' was being a hack...and now I'm left with quite a void.

So I need to find something new to occupy my time. I do, however, have a few criteria:
  1. It must be something that I will enjoy, and be at least moderately successful at.
  2. It must be fairly inexpensive (i.e. no $1000 golf clubs) and have little in the way of barriers (i.e. no hour-long bus rides to get wherever I need to go).
  3. A bit of a competitive nature would be welcome (though it doesn't necessarily have to be physical).
  4. It must be able to produce some sort of tangible results, such as "I managed to shave three minutes off of my race time" or "I placed first in that choral competition."
  5. It would be preferable if it was something that I could continue after I cease being a U of A student (whenever that may happen...).

If money and accessibility weren't barriers, rowing would be my first pick...but 5:00 am practices and a *really* long walk to get where I need to be rule that out. I've also thought about auditioning for U of A's Concert Choir, and although I would likely do extremely well with this and enjoy it immensely...it's a graded course, and that would likely suck some of the fun out of it. Some other suggestions have been Debate (summarily vetoed) and Kickboxing (a possibility, but I'm afraid that it may require more coordination and stamina than I will ever have).

So I'm looking for suggestions...anything and everything would be appreciated (as long as it doesn't involve hack...).

On a side note - and perhaps this may be fueling requirement #3 - I can't stop reading Nick's blog. I had no idea that scrabble could be so fascinating. For those of you how don't know what I'm talking about, click here.
