Here, kitty, kitty...

Courtesy of QTOFFER: Please adopt this adorable kitten.

Oh, and I updated the municipal election links in my sidebar...there are all of the Mayoral and Ward candidates, and their websites (if they've got 'em).

Fishiefishiefishie!!!

Sorry I've been so lax with posting lately, but I've been busy making the arrangements to buy this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*gasp*

Yes, that's right folks! Your favourite ichthyologist will soon be in possession of a 90 gallon set-up complete with 6 discus and wild-caught rummy-nose tetras!!! (And if you have no idea what I'm talking about - which you likely don't - please just pretend to be excited with me. Please?)

And on a possibly related note, anyone have a cargo van that they'd care to lend me for a day?

No? Didn't think so...

Votergasm

Well, they've finally done it. I can't believe it's taken so long to figure out how to increase voter turn-out. Check it out here.

Let's compare, shall we?

Bank fraud in Canada versus bank fraud in China.

I'm not sure which approach I like better...

Interesting...

In my pile of daily readings, I found the little snippet below from Insight. For those of you without background on this, Klein announced that the government would be spending $3 million dollars during the November elections to 'elect' Senators (for the full story, go here).

"On the surface, Senate elections are a frivilous act. The federal government isn't interested in piecemeal reform of the Senate.... Something more subtle may be at work. An argument can be made that the Senate election has nothing to do with the Senate at all. With the Senate election being held at the same time as the provincial election, Albertans in the ballot box will be reminded that most of them don't like the federal government and its institutions. They will also be reminded that Ralph Klein and the Conservatives don't like the federal government either.
Have I mentioned that I love my job? And despite the facts that I still hate Alberta politics, they're just so much more interesting that Manitoban antics?

Blue and white

It's weird having co-workers who are just that...co-workers. When you come into a workplace for a summer, you're kind of thrown on to the team as a last minute addition; rarely does the summer student become just like anyone else in the office.

It seems like, all of the sudden, I've graduated from the temporary nuisance to a co-worker. Office gossip flows through my cubible far more than it ever has. I'm more in-the-loop on ninth floor happenings than ever before. Aside from the blue background on my ID tags and the white background on theirs, I blend right in. I like it. A lot.

On a totally unrelated note, a huge thank you to Ms. Samantha Power for playing along on Tuesday night. I would have gone totally insane otherwise.

My first day as a real person...

Today marked the first day of full-time/career/real job, but sadly it seemed just like every other day. I did somehow take some satisfaction that today is also the day of the President's Address, often seen as the 'start' of the school year for many students...it was somehow very fitting.

I've already been saddled with enough work to last me through Christmas, and it looks like this 'leave at 4:30' routine that I had during the summer isn't going to be panning out anymore. Now that I'll be paid a salary instead of hourly wages, I'll have to rely on my workload more than the clock to dictate my departure each night.

< pause >

Terra just called from Scotland! Luckily no one was around to hear our 20 minute conversation...

< /pause >

So that's the story from the real world... Apartment A is almost finalized, and will then drop the 'A' to be called 'the Apartment'. Packing is going ridiculously poorly, in large part due to the CSI marathon on Spike TV yesterday.

Back to work I go...

It's September 1st...

Go 'Apartment A', go!!!!

It's D-Day, folks...I'll keep y'all posted... It looks, though, that I won't be homeless come October 1st.

Whee!!!
